| Ursache im Detail
|

|
| U 103 sichtete am 09.12.1940 um 01:00 Uhr einen Dampfer und setzte zum Angriff an. Um 01:32 Uhr schoß Schütze einen Torpedo. Dieser traf die Empire Jaguar hinten. Das Schiff hatte starke Heckbeschädigungen, viele Stücke flogen durch die Luft. Der erste Fangschuß um 01:49 Uhr ging fehl, erst der zweite traf das Schiff in der Mitte. Nach einer gewaltigen Explosion war der Dampfer immer noch nicht gesunken. Da sich U 103 verschossen hatte, und die stärker werdende See den Artillerieeinsatz verhinderte, sah sich Schütze gezwungen den Schauplatz zu verlassen. Es gab keine Überlebenden. Der Kapitän, 34 Besatzungsmitglieder und 2 Artilleristen kamen ums Leben.
