| − | | | | + | | colspan="3" | [[U 99]] sichtete am 31.07.1940 um 01:06 Uhr einen Dampfer und lief zum Angriff an. Um 01:38 Uhr schoß Kretschmer einen Torpedo auf das Schiff. Dieser Torpedo traf die Jamaica Progress achtern. Der Dampfer sackte achtern etwas weg, sank aber nicht. Der Fangschuß, um 02:44 Uhr, traf das Schiff in der Mitte. Nach einer hohen, dunklen Sprengsäule, sank der Dampfer gegen 03:33 Uhr. 6 Besatzungsmitglieder, 1 Artillerist und 1 Passagier kamen ums Leben. Der Kapitän, 24 Besatzungsmitglieder, 1 Artillerist und 4 Passagiere wurden vom britischen Trawler Newland gerettet und in Fleetwood (Großbritannien) an Land gesetzt. 17 Besatzungsmitglieder landeten mit ihrem Rettungsboot bei Barra (Hebriden). |
