| Ursache im Detail
|
|
|
| U 108 sichtete am 06.05.1942 einen Dampfer und tauchte zum Angriff ab. Um 22:11 Uhr schoß Scholtz einen Torpedo auf das Schiff. Dieser traf die Abgara und ließ den Dampfer vorne tiefer sinken, was zur Folge hatte, dass die Rettungsboote ausgesetzt wurden. Um 22:23 Uhr erfolgte der erste Fangschuss, der aus ungeklärten Gründen versagte. Um 22:39 Uhr schoss U 108 den zweiten Fangschuss, der in Höhe der Brücke einschlug. Um 22:41 Uhr begann die Abgara schnell zu sinken. Es gab keine Verluste. Die 34 Überlebenden erreichten in ihren Rettungsbooten am 08.05.1942 Guantanamo (Kuba).
